Captain Gulzar managed to get some quality players for Sarawak not too long ago. Could have stayed longer to see some results but who knows what happens behind the curtains…

Too bad for the future of Sarawak football, they were some great talents out there in Sarawak, and I am not talking about places like Miri, Sibu or Limbang… I talking about places like upper Baram…Lio Matuh, I was on attachment with a Foreign-Local Technical Group collecting survey data up there when I stayed for a while at Long Tungan, there was a inter longhouse football tournament on and I would go and watch the matches…not like there was any choice up there( this was in 1998/99) one penan guy caught my attention, well not me alone, the whole spectators were interested by this fellow, he was Roberto Baggio… really he had long hair, wore Blue jersey(macam italylah konon) and he played skillfully and scored a few goals… but one thing was missing or two… he was playing ‘kaki ayam’… word was that everytime he put on a pair of boots, he could not play well… whenever they brought to play proper matches, the opposition players would aim his bare footed toes, so he never ventured out… too bad…

And to think Claude Le Roy spotted Simon Njangka playing in a village in Cameroun and brought him to play up to World Cup level… apa mau cakap…

Oh, when I was in Long Tungan, I met the father of Jalong Lenjau, a Miri football player, who played for Perumahan Kuching a few years back.
Btw, Jalong Lenjau was also a pendek-pendek, tagap-tagap type of player…
