I didn't know that...hmm...but it is an occurring matter...neverending story

Gambier Street shopkeepers unhappy over road closure
KUCHING: The closure of Gambier Street by Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) for the Sarawak Regatta has sparked displeasure among shopkeepers there.
Wee Hong Seng, the overall representative of Gambier Street traders, met with Kuching Resident Rodziah Morshidi and DBKU deputy director Lantak Amin yesterday to voice their unhappiness.

Wee, who is President of Sarawak Tourist Federation, told Lantak that the roadblock would make things worse for the shopkeepers at Gambier Street as they would not be able to receive any deliveries.
“How can they go about with their business if the lorries and vans delivering vegetables and other goods cannot send the things to their shop or market?”, he asked.
Wee added that it was unfair to close the street, adding that it would put the traders in a disadvantageous position.
Lantak, meanwhile, assured the traders that delivery vehicles would be allowed to use the road to deliver goods.
Gambier Street and Pengkalan Sapi walk paths will be closed from today until Sept 2 for hawkers to ply their trade during the Sarawak Regatta 2007.
Areas where hawking is not premitted are along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman (from Riverbank Suite, Riverside Majestic Hotel, Hilton and Harbour View Hotel), Jalan Main Bazaar/Waterfront to Tourism Complex, Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg and Jalan Barrack/Court House.
