Bandar Seri Begawan - Despite newspaper reports in Sarawak stating that participants from Brunei Darussalam will not be coming for the Sarawak Regatta 2004 because of haze, a jetski team from the sultanate has actually arrived in Kuching for the event.
Hj Azhar Hj Aziz, the Personal Assistant, said the Dean Racing Team led by Zainuddin Dato Seri Paduka Hj Marsal and comprised of Baharuddin Zainuddin and Amirul Hj Sanip left for Kuching on Wednesday by road.
The Borneo Bulletin managed to talk to Zainuddin by phone who reiterated that despite local newspaper reports stating otherwise the team had arrived in Kuching yesterday to ripple the Sarawak River in the jetski competition.
He said the Dean Racing Team will contest the Jetski category commencing today until Sunday at the Kuching Waterfront.
"The weather here is good and the sky is definitely clear. Our team has participated in the Sarawak Regatta for the last 10 years and had never failed to bring back a few honours.
We expect to do the same this year," he said confidently.
Zainuddin will participate in the unlimited class while Baharuddin in the 1,200 class and Amirul 800 class. He added the course would be short and tricky with mangrove trees and concrete wall as obstacles.
Dean Racing Team is set to compete with its usual opposition such as Petronas and jetski teams from Miri, Sabah and Sarawak.
Sarawak Regatta 2004 is expected to be a grand and elaborate affair this year with more adrenaline-pumping actions as local and foreign participants compete for the challenge trophies and cash prizes.
