KUCHING: The Chinese Consulate will help to organise next year’s Inter Cultural Mooncake Festival here, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Dr George Chan Hong Nam.
While officiating at an appreciation dinner for sponsors of this year’s festival at a leading hotel here, yesterday, he added that Muslim chefs, dancers and singers from the Xinchiang Province, China would also be present at next year’s festival.
“This will be the highlight of the festival to further promote ties between Sarawak and China,” Dr Chan said.
He told the gathering that his recent visit to Xinchiang, China where most of people were Muslims had also been an ‘eye opener’ for him.
On the Inter Cultural Mooncake Festival, the Deputy Chief Minister said it had promoted racial harmony and was a good move for Sarawak which had 30 ethnic groups.
He reminded all that the festival was being organised for the sixth year this year.
It was a huge success because of the continuous support, understanding and participation of the local communities and associations.
Dr Chan further complimented the concept of celebrating festivals or occasions with a multi racial concept.
Also present in the dinner were Datuk Sim Swee Yong, Lily Yong and State Assemblyman for Pantai Damai Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
